BURT, Katherine (Behm)
May 13, 1922 - May 30, 2012
It is with great sadness that the family of Katherine (Behm) Burt (nee Fleck) of Calgary announces that she passed away on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at the age of 90 years. Katherine left us just over two weeks after the celebration of her birthday, which was a wonderful occasion attended by many friends and most of her family. Katherine is survived by her brother George Fleck (Mildred); her daughter Dorothy Dooley (Ron), her son Dr. Allan Behm (Judith); grandchildren Ronald Dooley (Angela), Cheryl Dooley, Gregory Dooley, Jennifer Dooley, Cynthia Southam (Michael), Michael Behm (Candice), Allison Davis (Gregory); great- grandchildren Alessandra Virga, Francesco Virga, Julia Virga, Claire Southam, Everett Southam, Gabriella Southam, Breanna Southam, Nathan Behm, Ryder Davis, Chantelle Davis, Tessa Dooley, Benjamin Dooley, and by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She is also survived by three sisters-in-law, Katherina Rigelhof, Lendina Mathias and Elizabeth Wademan. Katherine was predeceased by her first husband Ron Behm in 1970 and by her second husband John Burt in 1977. She was born Katherine Fleck in Fox Valley, Saskatchewan. After marrying Ron Behm, she moved to Luseland, Saskatchewan where they raised their two children while he farmed and she ran a thriving business. Ron and Katherine moved to Calgary in 1968 to be closer to family. Following her husband's death, Katherine attended the University of Calgary to further her education. Later she worked for many years in the office of her son Dr. Behm. Katherine will be remembered for her strong work ethic and love of learning. She always encouraged her children and grandchildren to further their education and her greatest joy was to attend each of their graduations. She also had a great love for music - which she showed in her passion for dance and by taking piano lessons later in life. Katherine was well known for her elegant style, ability to entertain beautifully, her sense of fashion, appreciation for fine foods and antiques, and for her fun-loving, lively spirit. In her later years, she would never miss any opportunity to spend time with family especially during every festive occasion. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W., Calgary, AB) on Sunday, June 10, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at Christ Church (3602 - 8 Street S.W.) on Monday, June 11, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Kerby Centre (www.kerbycentre.com) or to a charity of choice. The family would like to express special thanks to the staff at the Carewest C3 Unit, who provided wonderful service to Katherine in her last years and to the Garrison Green Senior's community group where she was so happy, had many friends and wonderful staff support. In living memory of Katherine Burt, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park.
