DEWIS, Kenneth (Ken) "Dewie" Spence
June 3, 1953 - Calgary, Alberta
October 8, 2017 – Calgary, Alberta
Ken Dewis, beloved son, brother, and uncle, passed away on Sunday, October 8, 2017, at the age of 64. Ken was born and raised in Calgary, attended William Aberhart high school and went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in Commerce from the University of Calgary. Being raised in a very outdoor oriented family, he very much enjoyed playing and watching sports such as golf, football, baseball and skiing. Ken followed a few career paths that brought him to companies such as Nu West, Xerox, Telus, Condominium First Management, and Renaissance Management, before officially retiring this past August. Through the various stages in his life, he made many friends that lasted a lifetime. Ken looked forward to annual family houseboating vacations and trips to Hawaii, and his love for cooking led to many barbecues and dinner parties with his friends and family. Ken took excellent care of his loved ones, and we will all miss his loyalty and fun loving, easy going personality. Ken is survived by his sister Carol (Frank) Haika; niece and nephew Merissa and Chris (Rebecca) Haika; stepmother Alice Dewis; former wife and long term friend Joan Dewis and her children Tara (Nick) Porcu and Corey (Rachelle) Austin; and extended family siblings, Nancy Tuer, Christine (Doug) Gardner, Barbara (John) Perry, David (Linda) Tuer, and Doug (Rev. Marty) Tuer. A Celebration of Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle N.W., Calgary, AB), on Sunday, October 15, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. In living memory of Ken Dewis, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park.
