WHARTON, Dawn Leanne (nee Slezak)
September 30, 1955 - May 16, 2013
Mrs. Dawn Leanne Wharton of Calgary passed away on May 16, 2013 at the age of 57 years. Leanne's loving family is devastated by the loss of their beloved wife, mom, sister, auntie, daughter-in-law and friend after a nine-year battle with a rare form of cancer, Uterine Leiomyosarcoma (ULMS). Leanne was born and spent much of her young life in Neepawa, Manitoba. She moved west to Calgary in her early twenties to embark on what was to become a very successful management career with TD Bank. She helped hundreds of people buy their first car, house, or build their first small business. Leanne had a dedicated following of many loyal customers and friends during this time. She retired after 22 years to dedicate herself to her one passion, which was raising her two daughters, of whom she was exceedingly proud. Leanne was the glue and matriarch for her large and extended family. She was the one to plan and hostess the huge family Christmas or Easter dinner; though any occasion was a reason to gather her family together. Her meals were always unforgettable and her home and garden something out of Martha Stewart. All were invited and all were welcome; the door was always open. Her adventurous heart took her on many travels abroad with her family, and she was always ready to lace up her sneakers or step on her yoga mat. Her daughters were her life and no one was prouder of all their accomplishments or felt their every pain if they stumbled, from childhood to successful adults. She is survived by her husband Dave and daughters Kelsey (Nick), Caitlin (Mike), golden retriever Riley, her mother and father- in-law, Bob and Shirley Wharton, sisters Bev (Ken) Donaldson, Sharon (Terry) Buchanan, Tannis Slezak (Barry) and brothers Rick (Laurie) Slezak and Grant (Leann) Slezak, her special auntie Clare, plus many nieces and nephews on both sides of her family. Leanne will never be forgotten; she will live on through every imparted word of wisdom, every kitchen secret divulged, every flower planted and every hand she touched. May she remain ever in our hearts. Thank you for always making a difference. It was Leanne's wish that no formal service be held and a private family gathering will be scheduled at a later date. Photos, memories and condolences may be shared with Leanne's family through www.evanjstrong.com. Arrangements in care of EVAN J. STRONG FUNERAL SERVICES. Telephone: 403-265-1199.
