LAVOIE, Leonard (Len)
August 13, 1938 - September 6, 2012
On September 6, 2012, our Lord gently called Len home to Him after a lengthy illness. He will be greatly missed by Barb, his wife of 48 years, son Tim (Theresa), daughter Corinne Mandin (Terry), and grandchildren Katie and Alex Lavoie, and Emily, Anna and Peter Mandin. Len is also survived by brothers Francis (Connie), Gerald and James (Rick), and sisters Janet Thompson (John) and Valerie Olesen (Ken), and sister-in-law Joan Lawrence as well as many nephews, nieces and other beloved family members. Len's career took him from Calgary to Winnipeg to Edmonton, and along the way many of his colleagues became lifelong friends. The love of music was a major factor in Len's life; he sang with the Barbershoppers in Calgary and Winnipeg, and most recently, with the Vintage Vocals at Holy Trinity Church. Family members would like to extend special thanks to Rev. Paul Terrio, Rev. Jan Sobkowicz, Deacon Pat Hessel, Dr. Neil Chua and the wonderful staff and volunteers at Cross Cancer Institute, Dr. Curt Johnston, and the staff at Westview Health Centre, as well as many friends, neighbours and relatives for their ongoing prayers and acts of kindness. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 17, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 200 Boundary Road, Spruce Grove, AB. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Len's memory to Colon Cancer Canada, 5915 Leslie Street, Suite 204, Toronto, ON M2H 1J8 or a charity of your choice. Cremation has taken place. Interment will take place in Red Deer, AB at a later date.
