The Guest Book is expired.

Eric Linkord Byfield was born December 5, 1951 in Ottawa, Ont. and died in St. Albert on January 24, 2015, the feast day of St. Francis de Sales, patron saint of journalists. He is survived by his wife, Joanne; his children: Eli (Mel), Colman, Silas (Andria) and Elise; his father, Ted; four siblings: Mike, Mary Fran, Vincent (Grace) and Thomas (Debbie), and six grandchildren.
He grew up in Manitoba and moved to Alberta in 1978. He succeeded his father as publisher of Alberta Report magazine in 1986 until the magazine closed in 2003. He mentored dozens of young journalists over two decades. He was a brilliant writer and columnist and wrote or contributed to books on Alberta, Canadian and Christian history. He penned four plays for young people and directed productions of each in the mid-90s. He loved the outdoors, hiking, and music. He will be remembered by his family and those who knew him as courageous, principled and humble. His abiding faith in the Lord strengthened and comforted him as he battled cancer.
Prayers will be held Friday, January 30 at 5 p.m. and the Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, January 31 at 11 a.m., both in St. Emerence Catholic Church in Riviere Qui Barre, AB.
