BARBER, Lionel William
March 12, 1921 – January 25, 2013
Lyle Barber was born in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, twelfth of the thirteen children of Phineas and Jean Barber. Predeceased by his beloved wife Hazel in 2005, his parents and eleven of his siblings, Lyle is survived and will be missed by his sister Betty (Donald Day) of Consort, son David (Deyna) of Airdrie, daughter Susan (Ron Whyte) of Crofton, three granddaughters Carolyn (Nicholas Kaczmarek) of Victoria, Katie (Brad Connell) of Airdrie and Deyna "Katita" of Airdrie, two great-grandsons Jackson and Oliver and many nieces and nephews. Lionel served in the RCAF during WWII then attended the Universities of Calgary and Alberta obtaining his Bachelor of Education degree. He taught at Lloydminster High School and Queen Elizabeth Junior High School in Calgary before joining Texaco Canada in 1956. Lyle and family lived in Calgary, Saskatoon, and Edmonton during his career marketing Texaco products in Western Canada. After retiring in 1984 Lyle and Hazel moved to Nanton where they were active members of the community for thirteen years. They moved to Okotoks in 1997 then Lyle moved to Victoria, B.C. in 2007. Lyle loved all sports with particular interests in hockey, football and golf and enjoyed reading and daily exercise until his passing. A private family service will be held February 9 at the Okotoks Cemetery.
