July 23, 1966 – December 14, 2012
Luciana Vinoya of Calgary, passed away on Friday, December 14, 2012 at the age of 46, with her husband Chris Murray and her daughter Bhernalyn (who flew from her home in the Philippines December 8) to be at her side. Lucy was born in Kibungan, Mountain Province in the Philippines and came to live in Baguio City. Lucy dreamed of coming overseas to Canada, and finally got the opportunity in October 2007 through the Alberta Immigration Nomination Program, where she came to work at Westons Bakery, then in 2010 becoming a Permanent Resident. Always wanting to be busy, Lucy got another job at Resourceful Futures where she cared for autistic and special needs adults. Lucy's co-workers and bosses always admired and praised her work ethic, integrity, and dedication.
Lucy was an active member in her church, Church of Jesus Christ in the Last Days, where she would join Pastor Jimmy Bongtiwon Sr. on house to house visitations and missionary trips in nearby regions. She helped support the church and would call or text Pastor monthly to inquire how things are. Lucy started going to the Solid Rock Baptist Church, where she met Pastor Mark Harwood and enjoyed the fellowship of many great church mates.
With many friends and co-workers, people were drawn to Lucy's spirit, in particular Chris Murray whom she worked with at Westons. In Summer of 2008 they started dating and became inseparable. Frequent day trips to Banff, Kananaskis, Lake Louise, and other mountain places were a favourite pastime where they enjoyed walking or just sitting in the Jeep and watching the river flow. Chris and Lucy drove to his Dad and Stepmom's (John and Ellen Murray) acreage in Brandon, Manitoba for his sister's (Jill and Shawn Bremaud) wedding in 2009. His family quickly came to know Lucy and she was instantly loved by all.
Lucy was predeceased by her father Sapel and mother Laita. Lucy is survived by her daughter Bhernalyn Vinoya Delos Santos and grandchildren Karl and KC, brother Vidal, and her sisters Melita, Rosita and Teresa, who will deeply miss their younger sister.
A celebration of Lucy's life will be held at McInnis & Holloway "Fish Creek Chapel" at 14441 Bannister Road S.E. on Thursday, December 20, 2012 at 2:00 p.m., viewing at 1:00 p.m. Our heartfelt thanks to the doctors and staff at the TBCC and Southwood Hospice who treated Lucy and our family with kindness, respect and compassion. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Solid Rock Baptist Church, 424 Acadia Drive S.E., Calgary so they may continue their work in the community and their missionary work in the Philippines.
