Lucille BROWN Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 29, 2009.
BROWN , (Margaret) Lucille August 6, 1930 - October 26, 2009 (Margaret) Lucille Brown passed away quietly and peacefully on October 26, 2009 at the age of 79 years. She is predeceased by her loving husband Dr. James S. Brown, her daughter Margaret Louise, and her brother Jack Millions. She is survived by her children John, David (Father Raphael), Mary-Ann, and Michelle and their spouses Carina van Olm Brown, Matt Heffring, and Daniel Cojocariu, her five grandchildren Alexandra, Houston, Mabel, Maxwell, and Dan, sister-in-law Lynn Millions, sister-in-law Joyce and her husband Bob Besant, nieces Joan and Faye and nephews Roger, Jeff, and Garth. Lucille was born on August 6, 1930 in Waskada, Manitoba and obtained her nursing degree from Brandon General Hospital School of Nursing in 1950. She practiced as a nurse in Brandon for several years before meeting her husband. They married in 1955 and moved briefly to London, England where she worked as a medical assistant. Returning to Canada in 1956 to establish a home in Calgary, she helped her husband in his medical practice. With the birth of their first child in 1958, Lucille retired from professional life to dedicate the rest of her life to caring for her family of four aging parents, four children and four grandchildren. Lucille had a deep sense of love for her fellow man and devoted a considerable amount of time throughout her demanding life to quietly serving a number of different endeavors. These included reading books onto audio tape for blind University of Calgary students, making weekly sandwich baskets for the Calgary Drop-In Center, delivering for Meals on Wheels, knitting caps for premature babies in the intensive care ward, knitting slippers for nursing home patients, and coordinating day trips for seniors. Lucille also had a deep spiritual life and devotion to God. She was an active member of Central United Church, Christ Church, and later St. Mary's Orthodox Church. Although unable to pursue these many acts of charity in her last years, she continued to touch and enrich the lives of those around her with love in being if not in action. Lucille Brown remained a blessing and a gift until the last moment of her life. In her quiet, modest, and gentle way she touched the lives of many people. She will be sorely missed and never forgotten by those who loved her most. A Private Service was held with the family. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com . In living memory of Lucille Brown, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Park Memorial Chapel, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Telephone: 403-243-8200.

I am truly sorry to hear of Lucille's passing, I wish I had been able to meet her, I am working on my family tree and just came across her as a connection through my relative John Baber.Bless you all

A chapter has closed on the long history of the Lowe and Millions families. We were surprised to learn of Lucille`s passing, especially so close to Jack`s.
I was flower girl to her, when she graduated Nursing, all those years ago.
And we were sorry to learn that Jim predeceased her. With Jack and Lynn`s moving to Saskatoon, we really lost touch. We remember all our Millions connections with great fondness.
