CHOUINARD, Lynn D.
March 26, 1943 – December 7, 2017
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Lynn D. Chouinard. He was predeceased by his wife Cheryl L. Chouinard. He is the loving father and grandfather of David and Shannon (Gabriel, Angeline, Samantha), Michelle, James and Dawna (Haileigh and Logan), Jennifer and Joel Mundy (Oren and Brynn), as well as his great- grandchildren Ava and Kyler. Lynn worked passionately with Merrill Lynch, continuing with CIBC Wood Gundy for forty-five years. He was known nation wide for his success in the investment industry. He mentored and backed numerous entrepreneurs in business startups and turn-arounds. He will be missed by the thoroughbred industry as a visionary leader for horse racing in Alberta. Together with an excellent team, he raised up Bar None Ranches in the early 80's. The Ranch continues today as the premiere thoroughbred breeding and training facility in Western Canada, operating in conjunction with a significant farming operation; one of Lynn's other great passions. He was blessed to spend his last years doing what he loved most, enjoying his little piece of heaven on this earth. He would spend mornings at mass in his beloved family chapel and working in his office. In the afternoons he checked on the young horses and watched the extensive gardens grow. The evenings were often enjoyed with family and friends watching and cheering his horses at the track. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. James Catholic Church (338 Ave and 32 Street East, Okotoks, AB) on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at 9:30 a.m. Interment will be a private family event. Donations in memory of Lynn may be made to Charitable Foundation of the Family (130, 4019-8th St SE Calgary, T2G 3A5, 403-278-0249. www.familycharity.ca) The Foundation is a charity Lynn cared a great deal about which supports those less fortunate in the area he lived and worked in.
