It is with overwhelming sadness that we announce the passing of Mark Eric Julien Grosjean at Panorama Mountain Village near Invermere, BC. Mark was only 22 years of age at the time of his passing. This tragic event occurred while Mark was doing what he loved-skiing with his family. The accident was not reckless, not careless nor due to poor judgment. It was just extremely unlucky and in a heartbeat our beloved Mark was gone. Mark is survived by his loving parents, Dr. Cheri Stanzeleit and Adam Grosjean; adoring sister, Heidi Grosjean and the love of his life, Heather Adam. Mark is also survived by his grandparents, Eric Stanzeleit (Bernice Bertram) and Jack Grosjean (Eileen Chapple). Mark was predeceased by grandmothers, Doris Stanzeleit and Kay Grosjean. Mark graduated with Honours from William Aberhart High School in 2013 and graduated from the University of Calgary with a BA (Honours) in Political Sciences, First Class in 2017. Thereafter, in pursuit of perfecting his French, Mark lived in Dijon, France and attended the University of Burgundy. Recently, Mark was accepted into the Direct Entry PhD program at the University of Toronto in Political Science. He was accepted by all 4 graduate programs that he applied to and was awarded a prestigious SSHRC grant. In addition to having a brilliant mind, Mark was a quintessential Renaissance man. He was an accomplished bassist, incredible athlete, avid reader and world traveler. Mark's love of music began at a young age and he played in jazz, folk, classical and folk-rock bands. He was an exceptional skier, cyclist and runner. Mark completed several formidable backpacking trips including the Chilkoot Trail and West Coast Trail. Every morning, Mark could be found at the kitchen table reading the news in both English and French and drinking his coffee. His personal library was eclectic and extensive. During Mark's short life, he travelled to Europe four times including extended stays in Prague and Dijon. He will be sorely missed. The family would like to thank First Responders at Panorama Mountain Village and the staff at Invermere & District Hospital. A Celebration of Mark's Life will be held at Eden Brook Funeral Home (corner of 17th Avenue SW and Lower Springbank Road) on Wednesday, March 21 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be directed to the Mark Grosjean Memorial Award in Political Science at the University of Calgary (donate at or contact Siobhan Doherty at (403) 220-8291).
