POFFENROTH, Mildred Loreen
December 7, 1933 - Calgary, AB
July 5, 2013 - Calgary, AB
Mildred's family sadly announces her passing from cancer at the Agape Hospice, where she was treated with respect and kindness during her brief stay. Mildred was raised on the family farm in Irricana, Alberta, where she was very involved in the farming activities. She attended school in Craigdhu (via horseback), Irricana, and Kathyrn, and enjoyed all types of school sports activities. She moved to Calgary where she was employed in the food services industry at many locations which included the Wales Hotel, the Stampeder Hotel, Gulf Oil, and finally retired from the Alberta Wheat Pool where she had been employed for thirteen years. She took pride in her work and enjoyed the social activities shared with her fellow workers. Mildred's love of Calgary is reflected at Olympic Plaza where her name is engraved on one of the bricks. She enjoyed travelling with her sister Bev, and also took various tours with friends to many different countries in Europe. She kept in contact with many of the people she met during her travels. She moved to Luxstone Manor in Airdrie in April of 2011, where she met new friends, enjoyed playing Bingo, and really appreciated the caring attitude displayed by all the staff. She was predeceased by her mother Maria in 1945; two brothers, Kenneth in 1960 and Herman in 1984; and her parents Irene and Walter Poffenroth, both in 2008. She is survived by two brothers, Raymond (Marilynn) Poffenroth of Kathyrn and Murray (Adie) Poffenroth of Irricana; one sister, Beverly Dumont (Steve) of Calgary; nieces and nephews Bryan Poffenroth, Russell (Brenda) Poffenroth, Shelly (Allen) Girletz, Craig Poffenroth, Trevor (Annette) Poffenroth, Derek (Wendy) Dumont, Jamie Dumont (Doug), and their extended families. It was Mildred's specific wish that no Funeral Service be held. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Canadian Cancer Society, 200 - 325 Manning Road N.E., Calgary, AB T2E 2P5 (Telephone 403-205-3966, email donorservices@cancer.ab.ca) in her memory since she had faithfully supported that charity throughout her life. She will be sorely missed, but we are thankful she is now at peace. In living memory of Mildred Poffenroth, a tree will be planted at Big Hill Springs Park, Cochrane.
