HOSHOWSKY, Myroslawa
February 28, 1928 - March 21, 2013
On March 21, 2013 Myroslawa Hoshowsky passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary at the age of 85 years. Myra is survived by one son, Borys (Melanie); one daughter, Sonia; two grandchildren, Larissa and Halya; Melanie's parents, Helen and Veikko Jarvi; brother, Erick and Lori Jarvi and their children, Annalie and Leah. Predeceased by her husband, Joseph on December 29, 1992; mother, Irene in Ukraine when she was a young child; father, Reverend Peter Iwanec on May 20, 1973; and daughter, Irene on October 2, 1969 at the age of four years. Myra was born in Sokal, Ukraine and fled with her father during the takeover of Ukraine by the former Soviet regime, first to Germany, then arriving in Edmonton, which she made her home. She earned her first degree with a Masters in Pharmacy in Germany, then her second degree from the U of A with a BPharm in 1958. She took pride in her profession and gained ownership of her own pharmacy. Myra spoke seven languages, played the guitar and loved Ukrainian arts and dance. In her retirement years Myra spent over 1800 hours (13 years) volunteering as a Eucharistic Minister at the Edmonton General Hospital. As her health deteriorated she moved closer to her son and daughter-in-law in Calgary where she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, and spending holidays and special occasions with her beloved family. Her smile and keen sense of humour will be remembered by all. Myra's most special holiday was Easter and with God's blessing, she passed on this special holiday. We all loved our "Baba" and will miss her tremendously.
