WALLIS, Margaret (Peggy)
It is with much love, and great sadness that we announce the passing of Peggy on Friday, May 3, 2013, surrounded by family at Rockyview Hospital. Peggy, the youngest of seven children, was born on August 23, 1923 in Portage la Prairie, MB. In 1927 the family moved to Armley, SK to homestead. She was a bright student, taking her nurses' training at Saskatoon City Hospital, gaining lifelong friends. She nursed at Meadow Lake, Tisdale, then in 1948 she moved to the Baker Memorial Sanatorium, a TB facility in Bowness, AB, later retiring there as Director of Nursing. Peggy loved to travel, enjoying many adventures with her sisters Mary and Fran ("the three musketeers"), including numerous cruises, and many Hawaiian trips. Peggy loved to knit, was a world class baker, a voracious reader and she loved her cats Misty and Bonnie. Above all Peggy loved her family. She loved all her nieces and nephews, but was "grandma" to Cailean, Ashley and Justin, and played a huge part in their lives, and they loved her dearly. Peggy was always caring, compassionate and non-judgmental, and an awesome listener. Peggy was predeceased by her six siblings. She is survived by Sandra, Jim and Cailean Connolly of Moose Jaw, SK, Diane Campbell, Daryl Owsley, Lisa, Gerald, Madison and Marshall Tonellato, Elaine, Hugh Ashley, Justin Swinton, and Derek DeGraw, and numerous nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Unit 57 for their awesome care, and Chaplain Gerald Mann at the Rockyview. Thanks also to the Peter Lougheed Surgery, ICU and medical floor. A Celebration of Peggy's Life will be held in the Chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home on Thursday, May 9, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. If desired donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Lung Association, the Humane Society or to a charity of one's choice.
