NEWMAN, Robert (Bob) George
March 5, 1920 - Amersham, England
May 20, 2013 - Calgary, Alberta
Bob was the most Wonderful, Interesting, Caring and Loving Individual one could ever hope to ever meet in one's lifetime. He was born and educated in the town of Amersham, England and on leaving school attended and graduated from The Royal Marine's Academy (UK). He served aboard many sailing vessels during WWII, amongst them being The South Hampton, The York, and The Phoebe for which he was awarded The Atlantic Star,
The African Star, The Italian Star, The Burma Star and the Maltese Cross. It was after re- joining civilian life in England that Bob met the love of his life Evelyn. In 1957 Bob emigrated from England to Canada and later on that year he sent for Evelyn and they married in Lethbridge on the 17th October 1957, from there they travelled North to Fort Smith, then further North to Inuvik where they continued working, Bob on maintenance and Evelyn nursing at the small local hospital, there they made many friendships that lasted their life time. After their adventures up in the Northwest Territories, they returned back to Calgary where Bob continued working as a Steam Engineer on the maintenance crew
at the University of Calgary, again meeting and making more wonderful friends. Bob and Evelyn had a fun life together along with
their little dog named Bootsie. They took advantage of every possible chance to enjoy The Great Canadian outdoors. They camped, cross country skied and hiked every trail they could possibly do in and around the National Parks, Banff, Kananaskis and Waterton. After retiring they travelled further a field, their last big trip together was to China. They sailed up the Yangtze River, walked the Great Wall of China and ate many interesting local delicacies along the way, they said it was the most Interesting and exciting trip they had ever taken, and it was definitely a GREAT topic of conversation for a VERY long time after. Sadly Bob lost his soul-mate Evelyn in
March 2011 and after he himself suffered a few health problems he spent some time at The Fanning Centre, Calgary and latterly at The Heartland residential home in Okotoks, AB. To whom we would like to take this opportunity to extend a heartfelt thank you for the wonderful care and attention that Bob received at both of these facilities. It was really appreciated. Thank you. To have known Bob was a privilege and he will be greatly missed by his cousin Barbara and family in England, The Lyons family, The Palmer family both of Calgary and the Ogston's of Red Deer, also friend Angie along with a host of other friends and acquaintances. An informal memorial will be held in Bob's honour at a later date. For friends who would like to attend please contact 403-813-6503 leave a brief message and we will gladly return your call.
Good bye Bob, you are once again reunited
with the love of your life, Evelyn.
Rest in peace, Dear friend.
