August 12, 1941 - June 28, 2012
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ron Onishenko (Deda). He went home to be with the Lord peacefully in Calgary at the Foothills Hospital on Thursday, June 28th, 2012 at the age of 70 years. Ron grew up on a farm and was born in Blaine Lake, SK on August 12th, 1941. After graduating from high school, he attended the University of Saskatchewan and graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce in 1965 and became a C.A. He lived and worked in Saskatoon, SK. as a Chartered Accountant and then in 1974 Ron and his family picked up and moved to Calgary, AB. where he began his own Professional Corporation as a C.A. He continued to work as a C.A up until his passing, totaling over forty-seven years!
Ron is survived by his wife of six years Natasha; his four children, Blair, Kirby, Chad, Becky (Paul); as well as ten grandchildren; three brothers, John (Pat), Edward (Debbie), Mervin (Carol); and sister in-law Cheryl, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by the first love of his life, our mother Shirley Onishenko in 1988, his caring brother Lloyd, and his loving parents Pauline and Nicholas. The memories we will always cherish include Ron's love for his family and friends, his workmanship and love for his family cottage, his faith in God and his church, his love of being a brilliant C.A. and his desire to travel. He also grew up playing many sports (and played them well!) and also became very involved in hockey in a variety of capacities such as administration, fundraising, aiding in achieving successful organizations, coaching, was president and chairman of international tournaments including the SWAA and the Mac's Midget Tournament, also obtaining a lifetime honorary membership due to his outstanding leadership of the AAA Calgary Royals and so forth. He was also an avid Calgary Flames and Stampeders fan. Ron was a dedicated, thoughtful, generous, compassionate, hardworking, charitable intelligent man, business man, brother, uncle, husband, father and grandfather with a big heart and a warm smile who was always willing to provide for everyone else before himself. He enjoyed helping others and especially sending all of his children and grandchildren on two Mexican vacations with memories to last a lifetime! Special thanks go out to the staff at the Rockyview and Foothills hospitals when he was in their care. A Celebration of Ron's Life will be held at Bow Valley Christian Church (5300 - 53rd Avenue N.W.) on Friday, July 20, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. Ron will be laid to rest near his first wife of 25 years, Shirley Onishenko at the Haralowka Cemetery near Blaine Lake, SK. in the near future. Condolences may be forwarded through If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Alberta Lung Association, P.O. Box 4500, Station South, Edmonton, AB T6E 6K2 Telephone: 1 (888) 566 - 5864 ext.2240.
