Roy Reid Sr. passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, December 13, 2012 at the Peter Lougheed Hospital. He was predeceased by his wife Julia in 2010. He will be lovingly remembered and missed by his daughter, Carol (Gerald) Kenyon; son, Roy Reid (Joan Gilmour); grandchildren: Autumn (Josh), Kastyn (Joe), Roy Reid, Colin (Michelle) and Tyler Demers and great- grandchildren: Willum, Oren, Joshua, Justin, Dalton and Damon. He was predeceased by his brothers: James Coughlin and William Reid. Roy Sr. was born in Ontario, but spent the most of his life in Calgary. Despite a lack of opportunity for formal education, he will always be remembered as a well read, highly intelligent man, with natural ability in all aspects of industrial design. He was employed in the early years as an industrial designer with Dominion Bridge and Riverside Iron Works, while grain farming in the Rundle Properties area. He then ventured out on his own with a Calgary partner to form Industrial Design and Sales, providing custom products to the oil and gas, mining and food industries in Western Canada. In 1971, together with his son Roy, he formed Alberta Tank, providing specialty stationary and highway pressure vessel products. Simultaneously he joint ventured a small estate land subdivision with Daon in Pineridge. He retired from daily business commitments in 1983 and concentrated on his tube radios, wood working and gardening pursuits. He successfully lived with serious heart problems since the 1960's - adjusting his lifestyle to suit. He was determined to live out his final years at home and did so until hospitalized on December 9, 2012. The family members extend our sincere thanks to the caregivers and management at Classic Life Care and CBI and to his personal physician Dr. Simon Hudy. Donations in memory of Roy may be made directly to Calgary Health Trust: Carewest Colonel Belcher (800 - 11012 Macleod Trail S.E., Calgary). Funeral Mass will be Celebrated at Holy Trinity Catholic Church (1525 - 45th Street S.E., Calgary) on Friday December 21, 2012 at 11 a.m. Interment and reception to follow immediately at Mountain View Funeral Home and Cemetery.
