MESTON, Susan Anne (Sam)
February 5, 1970 - December 10, 2012
Sam was taken from us on December 10. For more than a year, she fought an unfair fight with the same strength, grace, and dignity that defined how she lived her 42 years. She knew the likely outcome but never gave up fighting. In the end her body could not continue, but Sam was never beaten. Sam was a respected IT professional who led by example and was sought out for her advice and common sense. She was passionate about her work and proud of her accomplishments, but by far she was proudest of the fact that she was well liked and even loved, by so many of the people she worked closely with. After spending the last ten years living a Dubai adventure where she made more friends and touched more people than can be named here, we learned her fight was not going well. Her wish was to get back to Calgary, the place she always considered home. The journey back was difficult but she made it happen through her own courage and desire to be near the people she loved. These people include her parents Ken and Jan Meston, and her parents Marnie and Rex Garrett, as well as Andrushkos, Bourdeaus, Crnkovichs, Davies, Englishs, Frenchs, Grieders, Hurds, Kennedys, Lloyds, Marrs, Mestons, a Priddle, Storys, Terakitas, Thomasers, Ungers, Wansboroughs, and Whitelys. Especially missing her are four spoiled mama's boys dogs, two cats, and a husband who was never allowed to have a 50 inch TV, but is truly grateful for the 20 years she looked after him. In late 2011, Sam had emergency surgery to have a kidney removed. At the time a good friend said "This doesn't matter, she would have given one to somebody who needed it anyway". It was the best thing I had ever heard said about anyone, and it was a perfect truth to have been said about her. She was tough and soft and kind and beautiful. We miss you Sam.
