LARKAM, Walter "Wally"
December 28, 1927 - August 24, 2014
Walter (Wally) Larkam died peacefully on August 24, 2014 at the age of 86. At the time of his passing, he was surrounded by family and friends at his home west of Airdrie. Wally is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Kay; his three daughters, Laurie, Kathie (Richard Geleta) and Jamie; his two granddaughters, Nichole (Brian Hutton) and Kaitlyn; and his beloved cat, Paws. Wally is also survived by two brothers, Larry and Ralph (Pat), sister-in- law Rose, and brother-in-law, Wayne Fletcher (Evie), as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Wally was born in Stettler, Alberta, but moved to Calgary as a young boy and spent the majority of his life in the Calgary area. Wally was proud to have worked for Imperial Oil for nearly forty years. His work was instrumental in the early development of the technology now used in the oil sands. The family wishes to extend its heartfelt thanks to Dr. James A. Dickinson, Jay Restar and Amal Osman who helped the family fulfil Wally's wish to die at home. Wally will be remembered as an avid golfer, bingo player, Flames fan and crafter, but above all as a kind and gentle soul. He never met a dog or cat that didn't like him. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to either the Wildrose Humane Society (www.wildrosehumane.ca/support/make-a- donation) OR Alberta Cancer Foundation (www.albertacancer.ca). A Graveside Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, August 29, 2014 at the Garden of Christus, Mountain View Memorial Gardens followed by a time of shared remembrances and refreshments in the Arbor Lounge at the Mountain View Funeral Home.
