Yone Young Obituary
YOUNG, Yone Kvietys
Yone Kvietys Young was born in Kaunas,
Lithuania August 21, 1924 and went eternal
July 17, 2011. A major figure in contemporary
dance Yone was an instructor at McGill,
University of Toronto, Ontario College, and
University of Calgary. In the late 1970's she
began her second career as an artist
specializing in mono-prints, mixed media, and
stained glass. Yone's work was in galleries
and is in permanent collections in Canada,
the U.S., and Asia. A spirited renaissance
woman she is missed by son Saulius Urbonas,
wife Barbara, granddaughter Nijole of Santa
Barbara, countless friends, and all those
she inspired. In lieu of flowers donations may
be sent to Calgary ASPCA. Memorial plans

Yone' was a very good friend and her passing will leave a void in my life. I was a member of the Monoprinters Guild and we had remained in contact for all the years since that group was formed.Yone contributed a great deal to the art community of Calgary.

I was sorry to learn of Yoni's passing. We knew one another for many years from her founding of the International Monoprinters Guild, through ACAD & as artists with the Alberta Society of Artists.

My sincere condolences to Yone's family. I am a dance historian and always teach my university students about Yone's contribution to the development of modern dance in Canada. Our art form owes her much.

Yone was my first contemporary dance teacher. Her classes and her mentorship for almost a decade changed my life, and the lives of many others in Calgary. She was inspirational and demanding and visionary. I am very saddened by her passing and send condolences to the family.
