February 12, 2014 - Calgary, Alberta, Canada
Reziero Serpico, beloved husband, father, grandfather and uncle, passed away in Calgary on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at the age of 78 years. Reziero was born in Scisciano, Naples in 1935 and immigrated to Canada in 1955. His first job in Canada was working on the Canadian Pacific Railway in Kananaskis. Reziero then sent for Maria, the love of his life, to join him in Canada. They were married on November 3, 1956 in Cochrane, Alberta. They later moved to Calgary where they raised their three children, Gennaro, Maria and Angelo. Reziero was very entrepreneurial and was involved in many different business ventures throughout his life. He loved buying and renting houses, as well as meeting and talking to people. His hobbies were fishing, gardening, and most of all, playing cards. He was happiest sitting at the head of the table, eating pasta with loved ones on Sundays. Nothing gave him more joy than being surrounded by his children and grandchildren. He became friends with every person who crossed his path, from neighbours, to renters, to complete strangers. His personality was infectious; he would light up every room he walked into. His generosity was overwhelming – he supported many charities and causes that touched his heart. There was nobody quite like Reg, and the world is a little less bright because he is gone. Reziero will be dearly missed and remembered forever by Maria, his loving wife of fifty-seven years; his children, Gennaro, Maria (Carlo) and Angelo; his seven grandchildren, Genna, Brittany, Reggie, Felicia (Daniel), Olivia, Lucas, and Maria; brother Giuseppe Serpico (Concetta) of Calgary; sister Carmela Serpico (Donato Mautone) of Italy; and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, four brothers, and three sisters. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) today, February 18, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Mary, Mother of the Redeemer Catholic Church (1714 - 14 Avenue N.E.) on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen's Park Mausoleum. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. Reg gave monthly to many charities, and requested that in lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations be made to your favourite children's charity or to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation of Calgary. In living memory of Reziero Serpico, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park.
