FOFONOVE, Patricia Sonya Marie
(nee Hurlbut)
October 7, 1927 – Guelph, ON
May 7, 2014 – Calgary, AB
Patricia Fofonove passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at the Rockyview General Hospital in Calgary, AB, after a valiant fight due to complications related to Rheumatoid Arthritis. Her strong will to live, unwavering faith in God, and the love and prayers of family and friends carried her through her difficult last few months. Patricia is lovingly remembered by her loving husband of 50 years, Bill Fofonove, her daughter Jill (Stuart) Mitchell, daughter-in- law Tanya Fofonove, sister Mary Jane Pogue, sister-in-law Barbara Hurlbut, brother-in-law Patrick Osborn, sister-in law Doreen Rafter and her four doting grandchildren, Connor and Amanda Fofonove and Gordon and Alex Mitchell, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her son Paul Fofonove, sister Connie Osborn, brother Jack Hurlbut and brother-in-law Douglas Pogue and sister-in-law Marion Taylor. Patricia was the oldest of four siblings, to whom she remained extremely close throughout their lives. She maintained a life of character, principle, religious belief and exploration of new activities and hobbies. She was as expressive and bold with her opinions as she was with her fashion style. After following her sister to Calgary, Patricia met her husband, Bill. They were married shortly after on May 25, 1963 in Preston, ON and created their home in Calgary where they raised their children, Jill and Paul and later became proud grandparents of four. With a tremendous spirit and zest for life, Pat loved to play tennis at the Glencoe Club with her doubles foursome, play bridge, travel, read and spend summers sitting on the deck of her holiday home in Invermere, BC. She especially enjoyed being surrounded by the lake and mountains and with her grandchildren, friends and family. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Gerard's Catholic Church (8944 Elbow Drive S.W., Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Condolences may be forwarded through In living memory of Patricia Fofonove, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park.
