SCHMIDEK, Jacoba (Norma)
November 1, 1932 - May 19, 2014
With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Jacoba (Norma) Schmidek. After battling a rare lung disease for the better parts of two years, she slipped away from the conversation on Monday, May 19, 2014 with family around her bedside. While the illness had slowed her down considerably in the last few years, she approached life with zest, and a sense of adventure. Always excited to meet new friends and partake in any activity. She loved to travel, read, enjoyed plays and music, and flip cards at her weekly (kitchen) bridge games. Mops spent the early years of her working life helping others as a registered nurse, graduating nursing school in 1954 at The Royal Alexander Hospital in Edmonton, also the city of her birth on November 1, 1932. Her later years were spent in Cambridge, UK; Westbank, BC; and eventually Calgary, AB, teaching painting, volunteering, and spending time with family and friends. Memorial Service will be held at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church (703 Heritage Drive S.W.) on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. Photos, memories and condolences may be shared with Norma's family through www.evanjstrong.com. Arrangements in care of EVAN J. STRONG FUNERAL SERVICES. Telephone: 403-265-1199.
