VASSEUR, Charlene Janet
(nee deJager)
February 16, 1961 - Calgary, Alberta
June 8, 2014 - Calgary, Alberta
On Sunday morning, June 8, 2014, Charlene passed away peacefully with her dear friend Brian Vasseur by her side, in the Foothills Hospital, Tom Baker Cancer Centre, following a long battle with cancer. Charlene was born in Calgary, Alberta. She graduated from Mount Royal College as a Registered Nurse and throughout her career she worked in numerous Calgary hospitals, medical offices and extended care centres. Charlene was admired and highly respected by her peers and colleagues. She loved the work she did and she always had a smile for everyone. Charlene met and married Brian Vasseur in 1989 and they had a daughter, Kellie Marie. A year later they adopted Lauren Ashlee. Charlene loved gardening, and her swing in the back yard by the apple tree was her favourite place in the summer. Most precious of all were the scrapbook photo albums that Charlene lovingly assembled, documenting a lifetime of memories for her daughter, Lauren, to remember her by. Charlene was predeceased by her daughter Kellie Marie. She is survived by her daughter Lauren Ashlee; her close friend Brian Vasseur; her parents Gary deJager and Lauretta King; her four brothers and sisters Cindy DeJager, Byron DeJager, Murray DeJager, and Judy Curran; two nieces Crystal Niddrie (Chris), and Lisa Peppin (Mike); five great-nieces and nephews Miranda, Sarah, and Hazel Niddrie; Brandon and Connor Peppin. Charlene was a strong, amazing and beautiful woman and she will be greatly missed. A Memorial Service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Friday, June 20, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In living memory of Charlene Vasseur, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park.
