MCKENZIE, John "Jack" Garnet
July 26, 1924 – Riverhurst, Saskatchewan
July 9, 2014 – Calgary, Alberta
Dad was proud of his roots in Depression-era Saskatchewan. He served in Bomber Command RCAF in WWII but rarely spoke of his war time service until recent years as a proud member of the AirCrew Association. Jack joined Husky Oil at Lloydminster AB as a refinery labourer and was part of the generation that built Western Canada. He retired 40 years later as Senior VP of US Refining and Marketing having lived in Denver CO and Cody WY from 1973 to 1987. He is survived by his childhood sweetheart Helen (Morris) and their children Gregory (Jane), Jocelyn (Marc) of Calgary, Catherine (Richard) of Seattle, Mark (Josef) and Bob (Charlotte) of California. He is also survived by grandchildren: Hugh (Sarah), Geoff (Sylvie), Jennifer (Charlotte), Morgan (Heather), Heather, Ian, Jared and Jack; great grandchildren: Nathan, Aurora, Hunter, Adelaide, Virginia, Annick, and Rémy-Marie. Helen and Jack were best friends and devoted to one another during their 66 years of marriage and have been an enduring example of love and caring to family and friends. After retiring to Arizona, Jack and Helen travelled extensively, enjoyed golf and its friendships, books and music, art and theatre. Dad will be sorely missed and remembered for his generosity, cheerfulness, kindness and integrity. His was a life well lived. In the words of Leigh Stanley, "We will never be the same as we were before this loss, but are ever so much better for having had something so great to lose." A Memorial Service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S Crowfoot Chapel (82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.), on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. for family and friends of Jack and Helen. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made directly to Calgary Health Trust – Memory Plus, c/o Family Care Giver Centre, #800 11012 McLeod Tr. SW Calgary AB T2J GA5.
