ALFORD , Wayne Stanley October 25, 1952 - December 1, 2009 Wayne Alford formerly of Edmonton, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2009, at Rosedale Hospice at the age of 57 years after a courageous battle with brain cancer. Wayne will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Lorraine; children Alexis, Jonathan, Maggie, Jim (Heather), and Joanna (Murray) Boyes; and grandchildren Elizabeth and Jordan Boyes. Wayne is also survived by his parents Robert and Margaret Alford; siblings Rob (Rita), Lynne (Dan) Lalonde, Deb (Chris) Basler; parents-in-law Elsie and Nestor Chanasyk; brother-in-law Leonard (Marilyn) Chanasyk; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members. While the impressive and lengthy list of Wayne's academic and professional achievements is more than compelling on its own merit, he will be most remembered for his character. In spite of his tremendous mastery of his field, his intellect and imposing range of knowledge, his decades of experience, he was one of the most humble, genuine, and authentic human beings one could ever know. A Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at St. Vladimir's Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 404 Meredith Road N.E., Calgary. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 12, 2009 at St. Andrew's Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 9831 - 75 Street, Edmonton. Interment to follow at St. Michael's Cemetery. Wayne's family extends a heartfelt and sincere thank you to the doctors, nurses, staff and volunteers of the Tom Baker Cancer Centre and Rosedale Hospice for their compassionate care that enabled the remaining days for Wayne, together with his family, to be the most dignified possible. Sincere thanks and heartfelt gratitude are extended to family, friends, colleagues, clergy and community for providing love and support during this long journey. In lieu of flowers, the family would encourage donations be made to the Alberta Cancer Foundation Brain Tumour Research, 710, 10123 - 99 Street N.W., Edmonton, AB T5J 3H1. Expressions of condolence may be forwarded to www.parkmemorial.com . Calgary arrangements entrusted to LEYDEN'S FUNERAL HOME, RECEPTION and CREMATION CENTRE. Telephone: 403-228-4422.
