John Fulton Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 18, 2011.
FULTON, John Bernard aka ""Crack of Dawn John"" April 20, 1931 - February 12, 2011 It is with great sadness and much sorrow that the family of John announces his passing away peacefully on February 12, 2011. John is survived by his wife Blanche of fifty-six years. Also by three siblings Mary, Pauline and Gerald (Hugh, George predeceased). John had four kids and ten grandkids who loved him very much, Barry (Colin, Aislinn, Caely), Dave (Erin, Paige, Zach), John (Matt, Ryan, Amanda and great-granddaughter Abigail), Karen (Corey Ann). He had a very unique and loving relationship with all his Grandkids. His relationship with his youngest Grandchild ""the Zachers"" was awesome to watch as Grandpa and he were truly two peas in a pod. John was born in Minto, NB and left home at an early age to conquer the world. He went on to have a very successful career with Massey Ferguson retiring with twenty-five plus years of service. Upon retirement he became very active with junior hockey in Calgary. He served as treasurer for the Calgary Canucks Hockey Club for a long period of time. One of his proudest moments was to be with the team when they won the Centennial Cup (Royal Bank Cup) in 1995. Dad also served as President of the Alberta Junior Hockey League. Another passion was the Turner Valley Golf Club. He served as the President for three years and was on the board of directors for six. The Fulton foursome was an annual event that was cherished and will be sorely missed, especially Dad's creative accounting on the golf course. As John entered his golden years he received a lot of support from ""friends of Bill W"" and Dad was able to achieve serenity for the last many years of his life. His mentoring through the program has touched many lives. For the family this was one of our proudest moments and one of his greatest accomplishments. The family would like to thank the many people who were with Dad as he went through the final months of his journey. In particular Ted and Brian aka ""the twit brothers"" as he liked to call them, and Dennis and Brenda. The family would also like to thank Doctor Tam and the nurses of Unit 73 at the Rockyview Hospital for helping Dad have as much dignity as possible in his final days. At John's request their will be no Funeral Service but a celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 26, 2011, from 3:00 to 6:00 in the afternoon. Location TBD in Calgary. Please RSVP to 403-287-5539 if you are able to attend (with return contact information). In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, memorial tributes can be made to a charity of their choice. John/Dad/Grandpa will be missed but never forgotten and he will always be in our loving hearts and memories forever. ""God gave us memories so we can smell roses in December""

Our thoughts and prayers are with you all with the passing of 'Uncle John out West'. I still recall the hospitality you all provided when one of my brothers and I passed briefly through Calgary (wow - was it summer 1981??)
(Hoping for the best for Blanche as well)

Again, sincerest condolences.

I met John once, the last time he came east to Minto and it was a brief meeting.
To all members of the family and to John's msny friends, I wish to express my sincere condolences.
A few months back, I was in Minto at the high school there and they have the graduation class pictures from the old high school hanging in the halls. I was looking for my father's, Hugh's, picture. I found that, as well as John's class picture. Since they allow a photo here, I will include it as it was taken with a digital camera. Bottom row, second from the left.

My thoughts are with the family during this time of sorrow. I was the Public Relations person for the Calgary Canucks and had an opportunity to work along side of John.

My thoughts are with the whole family, in light of your loss. My deepest sympathy to you all. Although it's difficult today to see beyond the sorrow, may looking back in memory help comfort you tomorrow.

Hello, family members, I do not believe that I ever met my uncle John although I do recall a time when St. FX was playing in Frederiction and Barry I believe was playing against UNB where I played. I am sure John will be missed as he participated fully in life. Best wishes to everyone affected by this loss. Yours sincerely Hugh Fulton.
