Lionel was born in Meixien, rural China, in humble circumstances, and immigrated to South Africa in his teen years. Despite a lack of formal education, he established himself as a well-respected and successful businessman and leader in the Chinese community. After retirement, Lionel immigrated to Canada to stay close with his family. Devoted husband and father, Lionel leaves behind a legacy in his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, spread across four continents, having passed on the eternal values of dignity, honesty, respect for self and others, and hope for the future.
