MITTON, Christine Marie
(nee: Johnson)
August 7, 1913 - June 6, 2012
It is with great sadness that the family of Chrissie Mitton announces her passing on June 6, 2012 at the High River Hospital. Beloved wife of the late Gordon "Jack" Mitton and loving mother to Karen Foley (Jamie) of High River and Robert Mitton of Calgary. Grandmother to her cherished grandchildren Sean Tyler (Jenn) and Caylene (Tracy), and great-grandmother to Charlice Marie and Clayton Robert. Sadly missed by nieces and nephew Dolores Rayburn, Eldeen Barrett and Don Jennings, as well as numerous great- nieces and nephews, family and friends. Predeceased by her parents Ole and Caroline Johnson, brothers Henry, John, beloved sister Ella Jennings, and son-in-law, Clayton Foley. Chrissie was born on the family homestead at Pendant d'Orelle, Alberta and attended a one room school house at Birdsholm. She moved with her family to Foremost in the Dirty 30's and some of her best memories as a young woman were the ten years she worked at the hotel. In 1947, Chrissie moved to High River and worked at the Matheson's store on Third Avenue. It was at a local dance at the old fairgrounds that she met the love of her life, and she and Jack were married in 1949. For over 50 years they lived and raised their family on the north hill in the Regal Terrace district of Calgary. Chrissie will always be remembered for her kind and gentle spirit, warm smile and incredible memory. She was loved by everyone, mentoring many generations of family and friends with wisdom and grace. A celebration of her long and wonderful life will be held at SNODGRASS FUNERAL HOME in High River on Monday, June 11, 2012 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. The family wishes to thank Dr. Spackman and the nurses and care workers of the Extended Care Unit (Second Floor), High River Hospital for all their support and wonderful care. If desired memorial donations may be made in Chrissie's memory to a charity of your choice.
"She was my North, my South,
my East and West,
My working week and my Sunday rest,
My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song,
Our love will last forever long."
