HOWLETT, William Delmer (Bill)
July 2, 1920 - October 29, 2012
Bill Howlett, beloved father, grandfather and great-grandpa, died peacefully on Monday, October 29, 2012. He enjoyed a long and healthy life until early October this year, and we are grateful for our time with him. Bill was born July 2, 1920 in Star City, Saskatchewan. He graduated from Ridgedale High School (which was an achievement for the times). High school is also where he began his lifelong passion for football. He achieved his Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Saskatchewan after serving as a navigator in the RCAF 644 Squadron. His accounting career began with British America Oil (B/A) in Regina, SK, moving to Calgary in 1960 and retiring in 1981 from Gulf Oil Canada. Bill and his wife Bertha relished time with their grandsons, extended family, friends and travelling. Independent to the end, Bill enjoyed living in his own home, golfing into his 90th year, and keeping his personal accounts and ledgers up to date and cross checked. Bill was predeceased by his beloved wife Bertha Marie Howlett and is survived by his daughter Linda (Dave) Lathrop, grandsons Michael (Julie) and Paul (Gina), and four precious great-grandchildren, Sophia, Cooper, Will, and Farley. We will all miss his quick wit, his inner strength and quiet presence in our lives. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W., Calgary, AB) on Thursday, November 8, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. Bill supported many charities and foundations. In his memory, please make a donation to the charity of your choice. The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to the staff of Unit 58 at Rockyview General Hospital and to Doctors Ewasechko and Smuts for their outstanding care. In living memory of Bill Howlett, a tree will be planted at Big Hill Springs Park, Cochrane.
