PLANICKA, Anton William "Tony"

Anton William "Tony" Planicka, beloved husband of Theresia, and loving father of Tony, passed away on Monday, November 19, 2012 at the age of 83 years. Born in Calgary in 1929, Tony later moved with his family to Blairmore, Rocky Mountain House and eventually to the outskirts of Red Deer to farm. Tony studied at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology in Calgary. He moved to Olds and worked with his family business, 20th Century Motors and later owned a North Star service station. Tony's work concentrated on automotives, something that interested him throughout his life. He received numerous sales awards over the years with GM Canada and Chrysler. His favorite hobbies included working on his 1964 Studebaker Daytona, spending time with the family dog and photography. Tony was always very active, hard-working and enjoyed travelling and new adventures. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Tony and his sister Helen are the first of their family to be born in Canada, their father and mother having moved here from Austria. He still has family in Austria, New York and California. Tony possessed a great sense of humour and was always a loyal, spiritual and compassionate man. Tony is survived by his loving wife of fifty years Theresia; son Tony Jr.; daughter-in-law Ivy; and sister Helen Bush. His memory is cherished by his grandchildren Veronica and Anthony Joshua. A devoted son, Tony was predeceased by his father Anton and mother Maria Theresa. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church (321 - 90 Avenue S.E.) on Sunday, November 25, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church (321 - 90 Avenue S.E.) on Monday, November 26, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In living memory of Tony Planicka, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park.
