BROOKWELL, Robert "Bob" Lawrence
February 14, 1932 - November 27, 2012
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, father and "Grampie." Bob was born and raised in Calgary, working for the CPR prior to joining the Calgary Police Service in 1957, where he enjoyed a 25-year exemplary career. Most of his police career was dedicated to kids; working in Traffic Education, School Patrols, as well as the Safety Round Up Band and Singers. He was one of Calgary's first police school resource officers and a coach and mentor to kids in minor sports throughout Calgary. Following his retirement in 1982, Bob continued his career with the University of Calgary Campus Security. He was an active member of both St. Matthew's and most recently Foothills Lutheran Church, involved in many activities, most notably, the church choirs. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Helen, his four sons and one daughter: Brian (Heather), Kevin (Cindy), Ray (Sharon), David (Laurie-Lynn) and Judy (Al), and his seven grandchildren: David, Mandy (Scott), Cody, Danielle (Jamie), Kyle, Miranda and James, as well as many families who adopted him as "Grampie." A Memorial Service will be held at Foothills Lutheran Church, 3104 - 34 Avenue N.W., at 1:00 p.m., on Tuesday, December 4, 2012. The family will receive guests and messages of condolences beginning at 12:00 p.m., with the Service immediately to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Foothills Lutheran Church or a charity of your choice.
