Joan was born at the Royal Alec Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta. In 1952, Joan began her work career at Motor Car Supply in Calgary and from there to Texaco, where she was secretary in the Exploration Department. She retired after 36 years. Joan loved nature and enjoyed Thoreau's writings. Joan was a very special person to her many nieces and nephews: Susan Lang, Courtenay, BC; Andrea (Clive) Gammon, Courtenay, BC; Barbara (Blair) MacLean, West Van, BC; Graham (Caroline) Lang, Grenoble, France; Dana (Doug) Knauff, Parker, CO; Darren (Lauren) Dickson, Nashville, TN; Todd (Heather) Dickson, Nashville, TN; Shelley (Kevin) Moore, Calgary, AB; great-nieces and nephews: Meghan and Allison Phillips; Bryce, Trent and Lindsay Gammon; Erica, Janna and Colin MacLean; Sophia, Katrina and Mira Lang; Bryce, Garrett and Hayden Lowry; Stella and Ozi Dickson and Henry and Lily Dickson. Joan will be cremated and her remains will be laid to rest in the Edmonton Cemetery alongside her parents. A family Celebration of Joan's Life will be held at a later date.
