WALYUCHOW, Katherine (nee Kiel)
February 18, 1917 - December 27, 2012
Our loving mother, grandmother and great- grandmother, passed away at the age of
95 years, on Thursday, December 27, 2012 at the Brentwood Nursing Home. Katherine was born in Karlsruhe, Russia on February 18, 1917. She immigrated to Canada in 1948
with her five children and husband, Nicholas Walyuchow, settling in Calgary. Two more children were born later to complete
the family. Mom was a hard worker and did everything she could for her family. Mother was talented and self taught in so many ways; sewing, knitting, crocheting and a special talent for quilting. She made wool quilts, and everyone of her children and grandchildren were gifted with her satin quilts and knitted Afghans. She had a passion for baking and cooking for her family, friends and neighbours. We never left her home without food or something from her wonderful garden. She was predeceased by her first
and second husbands, Ivan Makrugin and Nicholas Walyuchow. Mother is survived
by her seven children, Valerie Hewett (George) of Calgary, Nick Makrugin
(Rose) of Strathmore, Walter Walyuchow (Tina) of Calgary, Erika Ellis (Mike) of
Calgary, Alec Walyuchow (Chris) of
Mesa, AZ, Polly Prozny (Moe) of Squamish, BC, and Bill Walyuchow (Mavis) of Medicine
Hat; sixteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.
Mother, we were blessed to have you
in our lives and will miss you always.
