BEFUS, Helen "Margaret"
July 21, 1938 - December 29, 2012
Margaret Befus (nee McCoy) passed away
on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at the age
of 74 years. Margaret is survived by her husband of forty-nine years, Glen Befus; her three daughters, Wendy (Colin) Bannerman, Heather (Bill) Kazimir, and Trish Befus; three grandchildren, Justine Kazimir, Nathan Bannerman, and Jonathan Kazimir. She was predeceased by her parents Helen and Herb McCoy. Margaret was born in Winnipeg, MB. Margaret graduated from University of Alberta in 1981 with her Bachelor of Education Degree. She taught in both Calgary and Edmonton. Margaret always looked out for children and was involved in Readers Theatre, Kiwanis Festival, bells choirs, Brownie leader, CGIT leader, church mentoring program and the school safety patrol program. She was an active member of Varsity Acres Presbyterian Church and an Elder for the congregation. Margaret was on many committees for the Presbytery and for the Synod of Alberta. She was involved with the Women's Missionary Society for the Presbyterian Church at the national level and was active on many of the committees. Marg was actively involved in Camp Kannawin as a camper, a director, registrar and board member. She was actively involved in her community on the Dalhousie Community Association and volunteered in her community. She taught special education for many years for the Calgary Board of Education at Colonel Walker, G.W. Skein, Cambrian Heights, Alex Ferguson and retired from teaching in 1998 while at Le Roi Daniels School. She was the number one advocate for all the children in her school. She bowled for many years at the Calgary Winter Club. Marg was also a huge supporter of live theatre, volunteering at Storybook Theatre, in its beginning years, and attended as much live theatre as possible. Throughout her life Marg enjoyed camping in her trailer throughout Canada and the USA. She also enjoyed travelling to other countries and holidayed in Great Britain, various countries in continental Europe, Australia, and Japan. Right through the 2012 Grey Cup, Marg was a vocal football fan, and loved her Calgary Stampeders. As busy as Marg was, she was also an advocate for her children and grandchildren and took great pride in all their achievements. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S Crowfoot Chapel (82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.), today, January 3, 2013 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at Varsity Acres Presbyterian Church (4612 Varsity Drive N.W.) on Friday, January 4, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
