PULAK, Robert (Bob) Joseph
October 21, 1931 - January 4, 2013
With broken hearts we sadly announce the passing of our dearly loved husband, father, and grandfather, Robert (Bob) Pulak, early on Friday, January 4, 2013, at the age of 81 years. Bob entered into the presence of his heavenly father after a courageous two year struggle caused by complications from a long-time fight against diabetes. Bob was born in Vonda, Saskatchewan, on October 21, 1931, the second of four children, to Fred and Alida Pulak. He attended Bedford Road Collegiate in Saskatoon, and obtained his BA of Commerce in 1953 at the University of Saskatchewan, while serving in the RCAF - Reserve Officer Training Program. Bob married Gladys Luschyk in Saskatoon on September 10, 1955. Daughter Cindy was born in 1957, while Bob was working full-time and completing further studies to receive his designation as a Chartered Accountant (CA). Daughter Valerie was born in 1962, after which Bob accepted a transfer to Revenue Canada's head office in Ottawa for the following eight years, where son Greg was born in 1963. A second transfer to Calgary occurred in 1970, which took Bob and his family back west where he ultimately retired in 1981 after twenty-eight years of service. His notable contribution as a government agent earned Bob a letter of recognition from Queen Elizabeth II upon his retirement from Revenue Canada, which he was proud of. Not one for sitting still, Bob accepted a position at Thorne Riddell, where he worked for an additional ten years. In his free time, Bob was a loyal hockey, baseball, and football fan. He had a great appreciation for the arts, literature, and science, and possessed a deep knowledge of many of history's important figures and literary works. Bob always enjoyed lively discussions about current issues and history in general. Finally, at the age of 65, Bob retired and focussed on being a loving and supportive teacher, mentor, role-model, and friend to his eight grandchildren, who excelled in their studies under his guidance. Bob was a gentle, kind, generous, caring man who lived for his family. He is survived by his wife, partner, and friend of fifty-seven years, Gladys; daughters Cindy (Tim) Haley and Valerie Pulak-Maillet; son Greg (Martha) Pulak; grandchildren, Kyle, Kelsey, and Taryn Haley, Robbie and Matthew Maillet, and Melanie, Michelle, and Michael Pulak. Also surviving Bob are brother Eugene (Marlene) Pulak, sister-in-law Grace Pulak, brother-in- law Les Kovacs, along with nieces and nephews. Bob was predeceased by his parents, Fred Pulak and Alida (Parent) Pulak, brother Albert Pulak, and sister Jeanine Kovacs. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church (1600 Acadia Drive S.E.) on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. Prayers and Tributes to follow at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church (1600 Acadia Drive S.E.) on Thursday, January 10, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens.
