BUKVIC, Ljubo (Louis)
October 3, 1925 - January 9, 2013
Ljubo Bukvic, beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather of Calgary, passed away peacefully with his loving daughter by his side, on Wednesday, January 9, 2013
at the age of 87 years. Ljubo was born on October 3, 1925 in Humljani, Croatia. In search for a better life for his family, Ljubo immigrated to Calgary, AB in 1960. In 1963, Ljubo began to work for the Canadian Pacific Railway, working on railcars. He stayed employed with the company for twenty-four years before taking an early retirement, due to a work-related injury. After leaving his career at CPR, Ljubo kept very busy. Being the hard worker that he was, he loved to do rough carpentry around his home, gardening with his late wife Vida and house painting. However, Ljubo's true passion was wine making. He would spend numerous hours trying to perfect the art of winemaking. He loved to share his wine with family and friends, alongside a good meal. Ljubo immensely enjoyed spending time with his family, in particular his grandsons. Ljubo is survived by his daughter Danica Nicoletti (nee Bukvic); his grandsons, Giuseppe Nicoletti and his wife Koleta, and Andrea Nicoletti; and his great-grandsons, Eric and Giovanni, all of Calgary. He is also survived by his niece Durda of Germany; sister-in-law Duanka; and nieces and nephews in Croatia. Ljubo was predeceased by his beloved wife of 57 years Vida; two sisters, Dragica and Milka; brothers-in-law, Ljuboja and Stevo; and sister-in-law Evica. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Vladimir's Ukrainian Orthodox Church (402 Meredith Road N.E.) today, January 15, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen's Park Mausoleum. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. Special thanks to Antonietta Finot, Louis's companion who helped his daughter Dana with his care. In living memory of Louis Bukvic, a tree will be planted at Big Hill Springs Park, Cochrane.
