HAMMERMEISTER, Rose Martha
September 5, 1918 - January 13, 2013
Rose Hammermeister, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, passed away on Sunday, January 13, 2013, at the age of 94. Born and raised in Edmonton, she lived in a number of places in the United States and Canada during her life. She made Calgary her home in 1982, where she spent over 30 of her happiest years. Rose loved spending time with family and friends and her career as mother and homemaker was by far her most rewarding. She loved to cook and bake and her spare time was spent working on arts and crafts. Rose was a friend to all and generously gave of her time and energy to those around her. She will be missed by all who were blessed to have known her. Rose is survived by her daughters, Linda Olson and Joyce Hammermaster, her son Ron Hammermeister (Elena); her grandchildren, Karin Santos (Al) and Michael Olson, and her great-grandchildren, McKenzie Rose Santos, Ashlyn Santos and Molly Olson. She is also survived by numerous extended family. She is predeceased by her parents Adolph and Bertha Fester, husband Adolph Hammermaster, daughter Phyllis Mellquist; sisters, Evelyn Brown and Norma Whyte, and brother Norman Fester. A special thank you to Rose's beloved daughter-in-law, Elena Halmaciu, who lovingly and tirelessly cared for her during her final years. It was Elena's daily visits that put a smile on Rose's face and it was Elena who was blessed with Rose's final smile. Rose will be laid to rest at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Edmonton. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Rose's memory to the Alzheimer Society of Calgary (www.alzheimercalgary.com). In living memory of Rose Hammermeister, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park.
