McCORMICK, Donna Helen (nee Cline)
November 30, 1910 - January 15, 2013
Donna McCormick passed away on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at the age of 102. Donna was born in Castor, AB in 1910, the daughter of Pearl and Myrl Cline. The family moved to their homestead at Loyalist. She attended Jewitt School, Veteran and Castor Schools before attending Camrose Normal School in 1929. She taught in a number of country schools before moving to Hamilton in 1941 to work in the Otis Fensom Munitions Factory. In September of 1941 she married Robert McCormick of Nilrem, AB who was serving in the Canadian Army. While Robert served overseas, Donna lived in Vancouver where daughter Barbara was born. When Robert returned from overseas, the family moved to Amisk where they farmed for many years. Their son Robert was born in 1947. After Robert died in 1965, Donna resumed her teaching career, first in Lac La Biche and then Veteran. During this period she spent her summers furthering her education. On retiring Donna moved to the Stewart Manor in Killam to be near her family. Later, she moved to Calgary where she enjoyed many years of good health before moving to Shouldice Manor and finally to Cedars Villa. Her wide interests included reading, beautiful handiwork and traveling to many places including Australia and China. Her feisty independence won everyone's heart. Donna will be sadly missed by daughter Barbara, son Robert, grandsons Bob, Jeff and Greg as well as great-grandchildren Sydney, Riley and Aubrey. She is also survived by her brother Leon (Rene) and her many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Donna was predeceased by her husband Robert, son-in-law Doug Gibb, brother Hugh (Ruth) and sisters Stella (Austin) and Alta (Earl). Memorial Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W., Calgary, AB) on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made directly to Extendicare Cedars Villa, 3330 - 8 Avenue S.W., Calgary, AB T3C 0E7. The family would like to thank the staff of Cedars Villa who showed such compassion as they cared for her in her final year. In living memory of Donna McCormick, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park.
