LOGAN, Elizabeth Anne
May 31, 1923 - March 15, 2013
Elizabeth (Bess) Logan, (nee Saunders) lived a long, rich and active life. She was born in Biggar, Saskatchewan in 1923, the fourth of a large loving family of eight. Bess's brothers and sisters remained an important part of her life. She often lived and travelled with her sisters after her relocation to Calgary in 1944. They kept themselves active by skiing, golfing, playing badminton, skating and having fun in the young city. She and sisters, Margaret and Eleanore, travelled to Europe in 1953. They worked and lived in post-war London, then made a tour of the continent. After Bess returned, she met and married Punch (David) Logan. They had two children, William (Katrina) and Celia (Gerard) and eventually grandchildren Hew and Nicola Logan, Guillaume, Julia and Eleanore Carlier. While working in the oil patch in Calgary, the family enjoyed canoeing and hiking and relaxing at their cottage in Trout Lake, BC. Bess was a lifelong volunteer, driving for cancer patients, Meals on Wheels and teaching Tai Chi to seniors for about 20 years. Religion was important to Bess, being a founding member of St. Michael's Church and as a faithful church goer. She was a lifetime member of the Skrastins Outdoor Club, hiking and skiing every Friday. Bess maintained a wonderful flower and vegetable garden in Wildwood. She died peacefully at home with her family at the age of 89 surrounded by love. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at Holy Name Catholic Church (2223 - 34 Street S.W.) today, March 19, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Name Catholic Church (2223 - 34 Street S.W.) on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. A private family graveside service will be held at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. Thanks to the Drs. Thaell, Lategan and Thornton, and the Palliative Home Care team for making it possible for Bess to pass away at home. Special thanks to Greg and Lisette, Doreen and Jane, and sweet Tang. In living memory of Bess Logan, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park.
