HOGAN, Arlene Mary
January 23, 1939 – March 26, 2013
Arlene Mary Hogan (nee Meade) passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 in Cancun, Mexico with her loving family by her side. Despite a 10 year battle with cancer she saw the sunshine in each and every day. Her final days were spent in her favourite place in the world at her second home in Puerto Aventuras, Mexico. Arlene leaves behind her loving husband of 52 years, Kevin; her daughters Patti MacPhee and Lori Styner (and son-in-law Dale Styner) of Calgary; her son Jim Hogan of Boston; and her grandchildren Daniel, Ryan, and Trevor MacPhee, and Kyle and Brittany Styner. She is survived by her brother Robert Meade of Brantford and sister June McArthur of Wasaga Beach. Arlene was born and spent her early years in Brantford, Ontario. She graduated from Brantford General Hospital as a Registered Nurse and spent many years providing loving care in hospitals in Brantford, Kingston, Burlington, Sarnia, and Calgary. One of her favourite hobbies was gardening and she truly had a "green thumb". Her legacy will continue to grow in the beautiful gardens she created at Villa Del Mar II in Puerto Aventuras, Mexico. Her greatest joy in her life was her family. Her devotion to her family and unconditional love will carry us through the rest of our lives. We will all miss her home- cooked meals and the fun-filled Christmas' at "Grandma's" house. Anyone who knew Arlene would have experienced her generous and giving nature. The family gratefully acknowledges the compassion and support provided to Arlene in her final days by her dear friends in Puerto Aventuras, and the staff in the I.C.U at Hospiten, Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexico. On March 29, 2013 her family had a small celebration at the sea in Puerto Aventuras toasting Arlene with her favourite tropical drink.
"Mom, forever you will be
a pretty pink flower in our hearts."
A celebration of Arlene's life will be held in Calgary, Alberta at a later date once all the grandchildren have returned to Calgary following their school years.
