Edwin OMAN Obituary

September 19, 2013 – Calgary, AB
Edwin "Ed" Oman, beloved husband of Liz Oman, passed away on Thursday, September 19, 2013 one month after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Until this time, Ed enjoyed a full and healthy life for which he was always grateful. He loved and was loved. As a Pastor, City Alderman and Provincial MLA, Ed was a faithful servant, touching many people through his contributions. When not working hard, he devoured books and played competitive sports like baseball and curling. Music was one of Ed's passions - he was a musician, choir singer and director and season ticket holder to the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. Memories of moments shared with Ed will remain in the hearts of family and friends who were blessed by his life. The youngest of nine children, Ed is survived by his sister Eunice Johnson. He was a loving father to children Beverly, Barb, Judy, Joyce and Jeff, along with nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was also a solid friend and mentor to his stepson and stepdaughter. A Memorial Service will be held at Bonavista Evangelical Missionary Church (1509 Lake Ontario Drive S.E.) on Friday, September 27, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. to honour this remarkable man. The family wishes to thank palliative care team members involved in Ed's end of life care. In living memory of Ed Oman, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park.

I enjoyed serving in the Alberta legislature with Ed from 1979 to 1986. He was a very good man, a great MLA, and a man for whom I had the highest of respect. Blessings to his family.

I knew Ed during the time he was pastor and alderman. I am saddened to hear of his passing. Ed was a fine gentleman, pastor, alderman, MLA, and friend. May you be consoled and comforted during this time of loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

My fondest recollection of Ed was his active involvement in organizing and participating in the "men's brown bag luncheon" fellowship held for many years in downtown Calgary every Friday at noon. Ed often provided the assembled group with thought provoking discussion points and never shied away from asking the questions that needed to be asked. His thought provoking, and Christ focused wisdom will indeed be missed and I am grateful that our paths crossed. To the Oman family go our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.

Ed Oman was the pastor who dedicated me as a baby...I was young when we moved from Calgary and don't remember much, but from visits back and some memories from living there, when I think of "Pastor Oman", I will always remember his warm smile. Lorelei and I extend our love and prayers to all of the family. Ed welcomed us to North Calgary Community Church and was part of a wonderful time of ministry their. Ed even introduced an Australian to the fantastic sport of Curling. For the many blessings and opportunities to have worked and shared life together, I am most greatfull.
