PFEFFER, June Rose
February 13, 1934 - December 24, 2013
June Rose Pfeffer (née Lawrence) passed away on Christmas Eve in Toronto, Ontario. June was a devoted wife, loving mother, doting grandmother, and generous friend. She was born in Calgary and had many cheerful stories of her childhood on a farm outside Acme, Alberta. June moved to Calgary in 1952 and graduated with the 1955 General Hospital nursing class. She was the nurse at the Calgary Firestone plant and paved the way for other women in management, herself becoming the second- highest-paid woman employed by Firestone in North America. She married Bev Pfeffer in 1968; theirs was a true partnership of best friends. She was a terrific mother who lavished care and attention on their children, Jacqueline and James. Together, the family enjoyed many happy times, including hiking trips and vacations. With her characteristic determination, June weathered her and Bev's cancers and the ups and downs of the oil patch. Up until 2010, she was an active member of the Maple Ridge Ladies Golf Club, and she won the 2002 Maple Ridge Masters Tournament. In June 2013, she moved to Toronto to be closer to her children. June is survived by Jacqueline and her husband Tom Merrill and their children Henry and Rosalind; James and his wife Nadia Minian and their daughter Natasha; and three nieces. She was predeceased by Bev in 2012, as well as by her brothers Ted and Art and sister Flora.
