With sadness we announce the passing of Don Cruickshank on March 2, 2014 at the age of 81. He has joined his beloved wife Norma, who predeceased him on June 23, 2008. He was born in Calgary and grew up in the Midnapore area. He had a long career in the trucking industry from the building of the Trans-Canada highway, to logging in Revelstoke, as well as a family water-vacuum truck business in Fort McMurray. He also hauled every type of freight from Alaska to Houston and anywhere in between. Don was an avid card player and he also began making wine and won numerous prizes in the Carmangay fairs. He leaves behind his sons Al (Pam), Dean, Jerry, Darrell, as well as his stepdaughters Teresa (Cecil), Judy, and Kathy (Al) and was predeceased by his stepsons Cliff (Roberta) and Bob. He also leaves numerous grandchildren, Matt (Marta), Brett (Ashley), Ashley, Brandon, Brock, Josh, Zach, Sean (Ashley), Lindsay, Jordan (Sarah), Coltan, Emma, Kyle, Dillon, Maddison and great-grandchildren Emma- Lee and Tristan. Don is survived by his sisters, Betty (Bruce), Rita (Heinz) and Loretta and was predeceased by Shirley. As per his wishes, he will be donating his body for research to the University of Calgary Body Donation Program. The family would like to thank his good neighbors and friends from in and around Carmangay for all their help taking care of Don and Tex (his dog and best friend) for us. A celebration of Don's life will be held at the home of Al and Pam Cruickshank, 244 Midlake Boulevard S.E., Calgary, on Saturday, March 22, 2014 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Misty Creek Dog Resue, Suite 472, 300 - 8120 Beddington Boulevard N.W., Calgary, AB T3K 2A8.
