My lessons with Clayton were during his latter years and I was amazed at how his dedication, professionalism and sense of humour instantly lit the entire range. "Your swing is not that bad", he would muse. "You just need to do something about that earthquake under your feet", and with that we would both be laughing uncontrollably.

Above all, Clayton was a true gentleman. My own Harvey Penick of the north, I used to think. Clayton had a knack of brushing his irons against the concrete when we would talk about the swing and everytime I replicated that sound at the golf course, I'd always think of Clayton. That sound and those thoughts will be extra special now. R.I.P. Mr. Robb.

Joan and Family - We had the great fortune to get to know Clayton over many years as students of his at the golf school. We attended on a regular basis because it was fun to get caught up with Clayton and learn new things with him. He will be missed by so many, and we will think of him fondly when we are out on the links. Our condolences to you all at this time.

Joan and Family.... Clayton was the nicest, sincerely friendly person one could meet, and not only as a golf pro. May happy memories gradually replace the sadness in your hearts. Clayton is probably setting up Maxim Golf, the first up THERE.

Clayton's passion, smile and the desire to make everyone enjoy not only the game of golf but each other is what I will always remember about Clayton. Clayton was never a boss to any of the many professionals that apprenticed with him but someone who gave each of us a chance to learn and develop ourselves giving direction when needed. You learned the most by watching, listening, being inspired and knowing that Clayton was more than anything a person who cared about you and was always there for you.

I will miss Clayton but will always remember Clayton.

Joan, Randy, and Family, So sorry to hear of Clay's passing. I am going to miss our talks about the game of golf, his beliefs on how one should swing the club, but mostly just his never ending enthusiasm for the game. I am one of so very many Golf Professionals who was guided by Clayton in Western Canada over the past 50 years. It was such an honour to have been able to work with Clay and then spend many years after at Pinebrook where he would just stop by to see how I was doing. I always tried to learn everything I could off of this gentleman whom I felt knew everything about golf but never stopped learning more about the game. Thank you my friend.

We agree with Bob Thomas. Everyone Liked Clayton. He was kind to everyone. A great teacher with a fabulous sense of humour. In our years at Pinebrook we never herd an ill word spoken about him. The world has lost a real gentleman. Michelle and Tom Walton

Joan, Randy and Family
It is with a great deal of sadness that we heard about Clayton's passing. When I joined Pinebrook on my own, Clayton was the one who made sure that I was welcomed by all that I played with and as a result, I have enjoyed many years of family friendly golf. His lessons were always spot on to fix the problem that one was having. Clayton truly was a 'pro' in all aspects. He is missed.

Dear Randy, Joan and Leslie
We all have such fond memories of Clayton. He was the epitome of kindness, dedication and respect. He made everyone's time at Pinebrook pleasant and fruitful. I still have his putting tips in my head. Straight back along the imaginary line of string and putt through the line....when I remember this my putting is fabulous. Clayton is the reason I joined Pinebrook and love the game so much. May he rest in total peace. Love Frannie

My regrets for not being able to attend the service. I remember meeting Clayton when my father joined Pinebrook in 1975. My father knew him from Riverside in Saskatoon. Clayton always had a warm toothy smile for a greeting. For me, Clayton was as much a part of Pinebrook as the course itself.

Deb and me were fortunate to play with Clayton and Joan many Friday afternoons the last few years. Clayton and I spent more time chatting then focusing on golf, much to the dismay of our playing partners as we may have been a tad slow at times. But we certainly had a good time. He was a special man and will be missed.

Dear Joan,
My condolences to you
and the Clayton family.
Clayton had a great personality, with a strong passion for golf, he taught so many
people the proper rules and how to play,
the game he loved.

Mads for one, would come home and tell me, " I need Clayton, my swing is gone",
Mads felt that Clayton was one of the best golf pros around.

Joan:
Thinking of Clayton in this sad occasion brings back memories of a happy and carefree time, when Saturday golf at Pinebrook was easy. Clayton always there to welcome us, boast our love of the game and offer a joke and a warm smile. At that time, the game was more than a game - it was lasting friendships and lifetime memories. Take comfort in the fact that Clayton was loved and remembered in such a loving way by all who came in contact with him. We'll all tee it up again in another time! Alva (Pfeifer) Nechtman

I just heard about Clayton and just wanted to let all of you know how terribly sorry I am. What a gentleman and a character Clayton was, not to mention being the consummate golf professional.
My first recollection of Clayton was a beginner course that he offered over the winterthink it was in the King's Church I was a rank beginner but wanting to learn as much as I could!). To this day, I remember his drill of transferring weight and staying on that front foot for a count of five! I occasionally golf socially with a beginner group of gals and literally just gave that tip to one of them last week! Soft Touch was truly a great teaching course created by Clayton and taken by many members at Pinebrook Golf and Country Club. He knew just how important that short game was.
I fondly remember the last time I golfed with Clayton and Joan, and just how much I thoroughly enjoyed the round, both golfing wise and socially!
He truly left his mark on the Calgary golfing community, especially at Pinebrook Golf Club where we were lucky enough to have as our Head Pro for many years. He will be sorely missed by all of us. Arnie may have had his army but I know that Clayton had his following!
Know that I am thinking of all of you. He certainly was one in a million.

A True Golf Hero

Charlene Fisher

November 5, 2016

Dear Randy,

Your Dad Clayton was, and always will be a true golf hero!

I am so sorry to hear about your Dad's passing. He has touched the lives of so many and is a golf hero to so many women and men and junior golfers that this note will be one of many - but I hope you don't mind me sharing with you what a difference he made in my life and the lives of many others around me.

I was one of the very luckiest of young girls and women to have belonged to Pinebrook when your Dad was the head pro there. That was a transformational time when many golf country clubs treated women and juniors as secondary members at best. Your Dad would have none of that. He always made sure that the women and juniors knew that he and the rest of his staff were there to help all of us to better our games and develop a deep love for the game like he had.

Thanks to his wonderful example, lessons and Maximum Golf, we all did fall in love with the game. Just ask some of those women who are still tearing up the links and blasting it down the middle thanks to your Dad women like my Mom Lill Fisher, or her Pinebrook golf buddies Anne Booker, Cathy Simper & Coral Chin. All of them still remember his many Maximum golf exercises and swing tips like turning the club upside down and swinging until you hear that sweet swooshy noise. In fact, I have used that technique over and over again to help many of my friends fall in love with golf.

On the junior girls golf front your Dad was so far ahead of the times that he held a very comprehensive junior girls golf clinic for girls - not just from Pinebrook, but other clubs around the city. We had no idea how lucky we were then to have such a great teacher and someone who did not see us as girls but as great golfers in the making. I still use ALL the things he taught me then almost 35 years later. The first thing he told us was that we might not be able to hit it as far as our male counterparts, but that there was absolutely no reason that we could not chip, putt or get out of the sand as well as anyone. So he taught us fantastic techniques for all three that made us unafraid to take on any course or any player. He taught us golf etiquette and golf lingo so we could be great company for anyone we played with. He taught us the rules and gave us confidence so we could play in tournaments and little did we know, so we could use it as a business tool to play with anyone, anytime, anywhere.

The gift of being able to use golf as a business tool became especially clear the first time I stepped up to the tee at Pebble Beach. It was a rainy day with a 2-club wind, a big auto client and a testy golf ranger who told me as the female in the group to make sure I did not hold up the course Your Dad knows this story I walked up to the men's tee, thought of Clayton and ripped one of my best drives out there to set up a par on the first hole. No more comments from the ranger, and instant respect from my client and foursome playmates. Thank you Clayton!

After moving to New York City, I still didn't trust my swing with anyone else but your Dad. I was home in Calgary one Christmas and my swing was a complete mess. My awesome Dad Bill Fisher knew how unhappy I was with my swing and how much I respected your Dad, so he picked up the phone and said he knew it was the middle of holidays and all the courses were closed, but could your Dad possibly meet with me somewhere for a Clayton swing doctor session. Your Dad did not hesitate and found a place that seemed at the time very unorthodox, but your Dad knew exactly what he was doing! We were in a room at a closed driving range where the concession area usually was. I clearly remember that there was a hotdog stand right in the middle of my backswing if I swung properly, there was no problem, but if I layed off (which was exactly what was at the core of all my problems) I would be pulling my broken club out of an embarrassing mess It was a Christmas miracle that hotdog stand survived the lesson. So I said, OK what's next? And Clayton said that's it you're good to go. And he was right!! I was fixed and never had a problem with it since. Any time I start letting that club head lay off, I remember hotdog stand swing - And I am fixed

That story is just one of so many where your Dad made things simple and uncomplicated and fixed things. He was always there for us, always treated us equally and gave everything 150% - in spite of all the challenges that life threw his way. That is my definition of a true golf hero!! In fact, I have no doubt he is already setting up to play in some heavenly foursomes with other greats first tee time would be Arnold Palmer and Lynn Cox taking on Clayton and Babe Didrickson Zaharias.

Thank you for sharing your awesome Dad with the rest of us we will always remember him with great fondness, and he will always be our golf hero!!!

My warmest condolences,
Charlene Fisher
