Harry Roy Rudy passed away peacefully after an intense battle with Multiple Myeloma on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at the age of 85 years.
Harry will always be remembered by his two sons, Brad (Anne) of Stratford, ON and Blair (Carol) of Calgary, AB; his five wonderful grandchildren, Rob, Jack and Emma of Ontario and Matthew and Mitchell of Alberta; and is survived by his brother-in-law, Jerry (Sylvia) Flecknor of Virden, MB. His memory will also be cherished by his many nieces and nephews.
Harry was predeceased by his loving wife of 51 years, Joan, her brother, Jim Flecknor, and Harry's sister, Jean and brother-in-law, Clay Gilson.
Harry was raised at the family farm in Balmoral, MB. He had a brief teaching career, first as a one-room schoolhouse Teacher, then as a Shop Teacher in Virden, where he met his future wife, Joan Flecknor. A geology handbook, given to him in Virden, inspired his continuing education at the University of Manitoba, where he received his Bachelor of Science, First Class Honours. He then moved West to earn his Master of Science in Geology at the University of Alberta. His rewarding career as a Professional Geologist in the Edmonton and Calgary oil patch followed. He was able to retire early and enjoy his friends and family, as well as his hobbies of golf and curling. Harry and Joan travelled and enjoyed numerous activities together with their friends and family.
Their faith was important to both Harry and Joan, who were active member participants of Holy Cross Anglican Church.
A Celebration of Harry's Life will be held at Holy Cross Anglican Church (2828 - 19th Street N.W.), on Monday, August 28, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow at the Church. A private family Graveside Service to follow on a later date at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens.
We would like to thank the caring Doctors, Nurses and Staff of Emergency, Unit 32 and Unit 57 of the Foothills Hospital, Tom Baker Cancer Centre, for their care and support of Harry and his family and friends during the past six weeks. Also, thanks go out to the Calgary Legion #264 in support of the Calgary Poppy Fund hospital parking program.
