Merle ANDERSEN Obituary

Published by Calgary Herald from Sep. 12 to Sep. 14, 2017.
ANDERSEN, Merle Louise
(nee McCredie)
April 24, 1931 – September 3, 2017
Merle Louise Andersen (nee McCredie), peacefully and with dignity, passed on September 3, 2017 in her 86th year. Merle was born April 24, 1931 in Foxwarren, Manitoba to George Elton McCredie (1890-1980) and Lillian Susan Mayhew (1901-1989); beloved wife of Harry for 57 years, daughter Margo (Larry) Templeton, and grandsons Nathan (Kim), Trevor (Laura) and Myles (Kayla), and TJ the cat; siblings Kenneth McCredie (1927-1985) (Joan), and sister Marguerite Duffell (Bill); and many nieces and nephews whom she held dearly in her heart. Merle moved with her family from the Foxwarren farm to Medicine Hat and finished high school there. She graduated from Mount Royal College in 1950. She began employment at the Calgary Associated Clinic where she worked for 37 years. She was a soloist at Hillhurst United Church and then joined the Lakeview United Church. Merle and Harry were married November 14, 1959 (the coldest on record). Merle enjoyed fashion and sewing (she with the most fabric wins). She would lengthen then shorten the same skirt depending on the latest fashion. She enjoyed camping and travelling, the Stampeders and Flames. Her favourite soccer team was the one her grandsons were playing on. Merle showed us the true meaning of courage after she suffered a stroke in 2010 and Harry showed us the true meaning of love as he was her caregiver from then on. The family would like to thank the Sarcee Carewest Comprehensive (C3) as this program provided the resources needed for her to remain in her home after her stroke. A Funeral Service will be held at Lakeview United Church, (3023 - 63 Ave SW, Calgary) on Friday, September 15, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. A private internment will take place later. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made directly to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. To express condolences, please visit: www.mountainviewmemorial.ca.

the most gentle and sweet natured lady...her beuty and kindness and sense of humour made it easy to love her. I will always remember her little dog under digging under the porch...she found it very funny I thought it was real. May she rest in peace until you meet again. Glynis (former carewest bus driver)

Dear Auntie Merle...There is a legend about a bird which sings just once in its life, more sweetly than any other creature on the face of the earth. From the moment it leaves the nest it searches for a thorn tree, and does not rest until it has found one. Then, singing among the savage branches, it impales itself upon the longest, sharpest spine. And, dying, it rises above its own agony to out-carol the lark and the nightingale. One superlative song, existence the price. But the whole world stills to listen, and God in His heaven smiles. For the best is only bought at the cost of great pain....

Rest now with the loved ones that went before you.

Such a beautiful woman and amazing family! It was an honour to drive Merle over the years and to speak with Harry in the mornings. Merle, you will be missed dearly!-Christine (Carewest Transportation)
