Ruben Perez, age 61, passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2016. Ruben was born in Brush, Colorado, on August 2, 1955, to Jesus Maria Perez and Teodosia Rocha Perez.

Ruben is the son of migrant farmers and a large close knit family from Brush, CO. Ruben made the difficult decision to leave the family farm and be the first in his family to pursue higher education at the University of Colorado, Harvard Law School and the Kennedy School of Government.

While at Harvard, Ruben enjoyed spending time with a group of fellow Hispanic students as a member of the Ballet Folklorico de Aztlán. Ruben worked most of his career as an attorney but spent a lifetime mentoring family and friends. He was a devoted father and participated in all of his daughters' school activities at Central Catholic Elementary and Roy Miller High School. He also made sure his children graduated from institutions of higher education; Tina graduated from Harvard University and Tera & Sera graduated from Stanford University. Ruben was very proud of his daughters' accomplishments and supported them as they pursued their professional careers.

Ruben will be dearly missed by all who knew him, especially his three children: Valentina M. Perez of Boston, Massachusetts, Theresita M. Perez of Redwood City, California, and Sarita M. Perez of Austin, Texas; his mother, Teodosia Perez of Brush, Colorado, seven siblings: Elpidia Perez, and Ricardo Perez both of Brush, Colorado, Maria Perez, Jesse Perez, Rodolfo Perez, Gloria (and Ramon) Elder all of Denver, Colorado, and Rosa Perez of Montrose, Colorado, his former wife, Nora M. Perez of Corpus Christi, Texas; as well as many nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, and one brother, Ausencio Perez.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, December 17, 2016, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Corpus Christi, Texas. Burial and an additional Mass will be held in Colorado at a later date.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers all memorial donations be made in his name to Central Catholic Elementary School, 1218 Comanche Street, Corpus Christi, Texas 78401.
