McDowell, Thomas - Canon City  
Thomas F. McDowell Sr. was born March 27, 1927 in Canon City, Colorado to James and Ruth McDowell. He passed away on August 30, 2015. He served in the United States Navy during World War II in Pacific Theater, aboard USS Fallon and L.S.T 674. He was discharged in May 13, 1946. Upon his return from the war, Thomas married Letha Talbott in Raton, New Mexico on June 19, 1946. The couple raised a daughter and two sons in Canon City. Thomas retired from Cotter after 32 years. He enjoyed time in the mountains camping, fishing and hunting with his family. He also enjoyed getting his family together for cookouts and softball games in the backyard. His favorite holiday was Christmas with his family around him. Thomas was predeceased by his parents and brothers, James, Robert and Leroy; and granddaughter-in-law, Darya Harris. Thomas is survived by his wife of 69 years, Letha of Canon City; daughter, Barbara (Edd) Harris of Pueblo; sons, Thomas Jr. (Barbara Brimm) of Canon City, John (Taunya) of Colorado Springs; six grandchildren, Daniel Harris of Fountain, Lori DiOrio of Denver, Petty Officer 1st Class James (Lorili) McDowell United States Navy of Washington, SGT Christopher McDowell United States Marine Corp of California, Kyle McDowell of Denver, Alyssa McDowell of Colorado Springs; four great grandchildren, Leeanna Harris of Nevada, Kirianna Harris of Fountain, Thomas McDowell of Washington and Kasey McDowell of Washington; and brother, Ned of Washington. Thomas was a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend who shared his love, humor, and heart with all he met. He was an honorable, loveable, hardworking man who will be forever loved and missed. There will be a viewing Thursday, September 3rd from 5-7 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home, 1449 S. 9th Street, Canon City, Colorado. Private family service will take place at a later date. Arrangements are under the care of Wilson Funeral Home.

Knight, Rose Irene - Canon City  
Rose Irene Knight, 79, passed away August 27, 2015 in Pueblo, Colorado. She was born June 30, 1936 in Canon City, CO to Vince and Anna (Faraone) Iubatti. She was united in marriage to Richard Knight. Rose is survived by her husband, Richard; children, Julia Knight (Dan Kahnke), Jeanne Knight (Tom Davis), and Lisa Knight (Michael Knutson); grandchildren, Shana Lucero (Brandon Lucero), Nicole Thompson, Rose Kahnke, Jessie Kahnke, and Baylee Davis; great grandchildren, Braylon and Isaiah Lucero; sister, Theresa (Elvin) Parker; and brothers, Vincent (Jacque) Iubatti and Jeffery Iubatti. She is also survived by numerous nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister Florence "Flossie" Worley. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at Holt Family Funeral Home in Canon City. Graveside service will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, September 3, 2015 at Lakeside Cemetery in Canon City, CO. Reception to follow at Kirkwood Memorial Church (5th Avenue at Grant) in Penrose. Huckabee, Betty Jean - Canon City  
Betty Jean Huckabee 80, passed away at her home Friday August 21, 2015 in Kingman Arizona. Betty was born July 3, 1935 to Leonard and Mildred Hulslander in Crook Colorado. She spent her childhood in Dillon and Loveland Colorado. Moving to Florence Colorado in 1996 and spending thirteen years of her retirement before moving to Kingman AZ. Betty is blessed with a large family, having nine siblings, survived by sisters Bernice Keime, Elnora Stewart, Arta Wray (Ronnie), Karma Jones (Bill), as well as son Calvin Carter III (Sandy), and daughters Cora Hudson, Jackie Valdez (Steve), and Connie Smith, and many lovely grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She will also be remembered dearly by her extended family, the Charlson family, and the Archuleta family. She dedicated her life to her family, and grandchildren over all the years. She was preceded in death by her Husband Jack Huckabee and her five brothers. Betty was a foster parent for many years; she loved helping others and was always there to lend a helping hand. To some she will always be known as Grandma Betty. Through her baking she was always there to brighten a day. She dearly enjoyed spending time in her garden and planting flowers. She was always sharing her green thumb with those not so green. She loved spending time with family and friends, family dinners and a good card game. Betty enjoyed music, dancing many miles throughout her life. Betty always taught us to pay it forward, and take care of each other to live each day to its fullest. Celebration of life will be held Saturday September 5, 2015 in Loveland Colorado at Resthaven Memorial Gardens at 10am, 8426 S Hwy 287 Fort Collins, CO 80525. Robinson, Leonard M. - Canon City  
Leonard M. Robinson, 71, of Canon City and Salida CO passed away on August 22, 2015 at UC Hospital, Denver CO. He was born to the late Joe and Mary (Gilliland) Robinson in Topeka KS, on July 21, 1944. Leonard graduated from Highland Park High School in Topeka in 1962 and Washburn University with a BA degree in 1968. He received an appointment to Navy Officer Candidate School. He was commissioned Ensign in July 1968 and served on active duty until July 1970. He returned to Topeka where he earned his Juris Doctor Degree from Washburn University School of Law in 1973. During his law career, Leonard was in private practice for over sixteen years. He also served as County Attorney of Wabaunsee County, as Municipal Prosecutor for the City of Topeka, as Municipal Judge for the City of Auburn, and as Attorney General for the State of Kansas in the Departments of Alcohol and Beverage Control and the Consumer Protection Division. He ended his career working for the State of Colorado in Chaffee and Fremont counties. Leonard married Penny Slagle in 1989, and in 2006, they moved to Salida CO to retire. Leonard was an avid fisherman, both spinning and fly fishing and enjoyed many ponds and lakes in Kansas and many mountain streams and rivers in Colorado. He is survived by Penny Robinson of Canon City CO, daughters, Kelly (Aaron) Anderson and Amy Robinson of Topeka KS, one sister, Mary Jo (Bill) Hodge of Osage City KS, grandchildren, Jacob Turner, Josh Turner, Kellan Anderson and Veda Anderson, as well as extended family and friends. A memorial service will be held at the Dover Federated Church, Dover KS on Sat., Sept. 26, at 11:00 am. A lunch will be served following the service at the Dover Fellowship Hall.
