Alfred Jeske

Alfred W. Jeske was born in Westcliffe, Colorado on June 2, 1917 and died on January 17, 2014. The son and grandson of a German pioneer family in the Wet Mountain Valley; Alfred attended the Lutheran School and Custer County High School, and worked for Hanssen trucking for many years. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army 307th Bomber Group and served in Guadalcanal, New Guinea, and the Central Pacific. In August of 1955 he married Helen Menzel of Westcliffe and in 1965 they moved to Canon City where Alfred was employed for twenty-five years by the CO Department of Corrections. Alfred was preceded in death by his parents, Martha (Forbrich) and Erich Jeske; and brothers, Erwin (Dorothy Menzel), Ernest, Herbert, Max (Mary Dammer), and Harold; sister, Ines (Neil Quick); and brother-in-law, Emil Voss. He is survived by his sister, Erika Voss of Crescent City, CA; and nieces and nephews, Kenneth (Jody) Jeske, Joyce Jeske Hastings, Sylvia Jeske Edwards, Karen Yeatts, Ronald Jeske, Janice Jeske Quirk, Sandra Quick LeMasters, ReNeil Quick Johner, Bruce Quick, Karen Graham, and their families. "Uncle Sweck" was the favorite uncle of our lives and he was a kind, gentle, and fun-loving man. He deeply cared for his family and his many friends, and we know he is happy to be with "Auntie Helen". Memorial Services will be at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at Christ Episcopal Church in Canon City, CO. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Christ Episcopal Church at 816 Harrison Avenue, Canon City, CO 81212 or to the Canon City Golden Age Center at 728 Main St., Canon City, CO 81212.
