Bill Baxter

Bill Verne Baxter was born in Larned, Kansas, September 28, 1925 to Mary Catherine and Hiram Baxter. He was husband to Sarah for 67 years; father to son, Col. William E. Baxter (USAF-Ret.) (Patricia); daughters, Linda (Louis) Allred and Debra Baxter (Jim Fagerstrom); grandfather to Courtney (Erik) Jensen and Paige (Troy) Fletcher; and great grandfather to Emily, Hannah, and Kayla Jensen and Tobin and Aydin Fletcher. Bill graduated high school in Great Bend, KS, before joining the US Navy as a corpsman on Manicani Island in the Philippines and aboard the USS Elder from September 1943 to April 1946. He owned and operated Edico Drillers, Inc., an oil and gas well servicing company for 40 years in Liberal, KS. Upon retiring in 1980 he lived in Kerrville, TX before moving to Canon City in 2002. Bill was a member of Christ Episcopal Church where Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 4, 2014. Memorial donations in Bill's honor may be made to Christ Episcopal Church, 802 Harrison, Canon City, CO 81212 or to Fremont Regional Hospice, 1439 Main St., Canon City, CO 81212. Arrangements are under the care of Holt Family Funeral Home.
